Country of Origin: China, Yunnan Province.

Did you know that Yunnan is practically the most famous region in China, where the world-famous tea has been produced for a very long time? Its location is in the southern part of the country. Yunnan Province borders on Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam. It is a mountainous region with a warm and humid climate for the cultivation of tea.

An interesting fact is that it is in Yunnan, the capital of tea extraction, that you can find the oldest tea tree, whose roots date back almost 1700 years. It was once the main source of Yunnan tea.

The history of drinking Yunnan tea in China

Tea drinking has a very distant tradition in China. It was probably started by the ethnic Pu people, in the hope that eating it would serve to honor the rulers of the Shang and Zhou dynasties.

Over time, the well-known Yunnan tea has also become one of the most important commodities sold by ethnic peoples. However, this tea was the most popular during the outbreak of the Resistance War against Japan. At that time, 5000 tons of tea were sold to Tibet and Sichuan annually, and 500 tons were exported to other countries. Today, Yunnan teas are also a very dynamic branch of the Chinese industry. You can find crops that look like the old ones. They are carried out in a traditional form, without fertilizers, and the leaves are harvested by hand.

It is fair to say that the modern version of Yunnan tea is one of the main products in the Chinese tea industry. It is worth emphasizing, however, that the possibility of such a large cultivation of this tea is conditioned by the climatic conditions prevailing there.

Currently, as many as 199 local species of tea trees are grown in Yunnan, and their unique, even noble taste is so unique that people around the world reach for it.

Types and characteristics of Yunnan tea

Yunnan tea is characterized by a fairly light color and strong aroma. We can distinguish, for example, Green Touch tea, which has a greenish-yellow shade and a slightly smoky taste, or Yunnan Pure Gold, considered to be black tea with a beautiful, orange-golden color. Another variety, under the name of Yunnan Pu-ehr, is brownish-red in color.

We buy the tea itself either in the form of loose dried material or packed in convenient bags. There are so-called "Golden tips", i.e. delicate tea leaf buds, which give it an exceptionally delicate and sweet taste of the resulting infusion.

It is worth noting that the infusion goes well with the addition of milk, sugar or honey, as well as lemon juice or fruit syrup.

The healing properties of Yunnan tea

If we drink the indicated tea in appropriate, not too large amounts, it can actually have a positive effect on our body. This tea is often called an infusion of health or beauty because it relieves symptoms of stress, cleanses the body of toxins, or supports fat burning. Most of all, however, it regulates the level of cholesterol in the body and has antibacterial properties. It is also believed that it can prevent cancer from occurring in the body.

How to properly brew Yunnan tea?

The correct brewing of Yunnan tea should take no less than 1-3 minutes. Also, the brewing time should not be exceeded because it will take on a slightly bitter aftertaste. It is enough to pour the tea leaves with water at a temperature of about 95 degrees Celsius, and then enjoy the unique taste of the prepared infusion. There should be about 120 ml of water per 3 g of dried fruit.
