Red pepper is a cousin of the well-known black variety of this aromatic spice. It is obtained from two types of peppercorns: Brazilian and Peruvian.

Red pepper has a characteristic aroma and is less spicy than classic black pepper. It contains vitamins and nutrients that have a positive effect on our body.

Why is it worth reaching for red pepper, what properties does this aromatic spice have and for whom is it especially worth recommending? We'll talk about all of this below!

What does red pepper look like and taste like?

Red pepper is obtained from the fruits of the Brazilian pepper and the Peruvian pepper. It comes from South America, and today it is grown mainly on plantations in Mexico, Australia and Madagascar.

Red pepper is found both in ground form and in whole dried grains. Among other varieties of pepper, it is distinguished by a characteristic red color and a more delicate spicy-sweet taste.

Its aroma is more aromatic than that of black pepper, although it is more delicate. The fruits of both varieties of peppercorns have a delicate, crumbly skin that covers a small stone. To make them a spice, they need to be processed quickly.

For this purpose, the peppercorns are poured with brine or vinegar immediately after harvesting, or subjected to a drying process. In this way, they retain their characteristic taste and valuable nutritional properties. And red pepper has quite a lot.

Red pepper - composition and its unique health properties

Red pepper contains in its composition such ingredients as, among others. protein, fat, dietary fiber, vitamin C, minerals (including calcium, iron, magnesium) and capsaicin.

It is the latter substance that is responsible for the sharp, searing taste characteristic of all types of pepper. Red pepper owes its high capsaicin content to its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties.

Its consumption is perfect for people who have problems with joints and muscles, because capsaicin reduces inflammation and supports the regeneration of damaged muscles and joints.
