Eucalyptus leaves as a tea

For a nice eucalyptus tea, take a teaspoon of the cut eucalyptus leaves and pour a cup of hot water over them. Because the essential oils would evaporate quickly in the air together with the water vapor, the tea should be covered and steep. After about ten minutes, the oils should have dissolved in the water. After straining, the tea is then drinkable.

The eucalyptus belongs to the myrtle family. The plant, also known as the blue gum tree, has its home in Australia and Indonesia. Eucalyptus grows into shrubs and trees relatively quickly. The giant eucalyptus is considered to be the largest deciduous tree. Its height can be up to 100 meters. In Tasmania, the imposing trunk circumference of 20 meters was measured on one specimen. The fact that the eucalyptus is nutritionally valuable only seems to apply to a few animals. It is only used as food for a few marsupials. The best known eucalyptus eater is probably the koala. The young leaves actually contain some toxins that will only go away over time. The concentration in old leaves is much lower than in young shoots. Koala and Co. therefore only eat old leaves.

Eucalyptus is not only an enrichment for the kitchen in tea and cough drops. The variety of green leaves is impressive. Why not bake delicious cookies with honey and eucalyptus.
